Medications
to Avoid Before and After Surgery
When
preparing for surgery, patients may be advised of medications to
discontinue prior to surgery.
Usually,
your surgeon will ask you to discontinue any mediations that interfere
with normal blood clotting approximately three weeks pre-operatively.
These medications will likely include aspirin, aspirin-containing
compounds, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and vitamin E.
Medications
contained on the following list may contribute to excessive bleeding
during and after surgery. In addition to these medications, your surgeon
may also ask that hormone medication be discontinued.
Tylenol
may be suggested for normal pain relief.
Please consult with your physician and surgeon for
specific recommendations and guidelines.
